Hafa Adai and Welcome to the Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja Catholic School's website. We hope this site will help you learn more about our great and only Catholic school on Rota, "Home of the Bulls".
Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja is the best kept secret in Rota! It is a warm and loving Catholic school community, where administration, faculty, and staff focus on the development of the whole child – academically, socially, and spiritually.
HISTORY
It started with a humble and unassuming priest praying to God for help in his new ministry in the island of Rota. For four years since 1985, Rev. Fr. Louis Antonelli (now Monsignor) unceasingly supplicated for the Sisters of Mercy in Guam, whom he fervently wished to have as companions in church ministry since way back as a young priest, to come to Rota and assist him in Church work and setup a modest Catholic Day Care Center for the Rota community.
In 1986, Monsignor Antonelli officially wrote to the Superior of the Sisters of Mercy and her Council reiterating his parishioners and his desire to have the Sisters of Mercy come to Rota to establish a Foundation.
Between 1985 and 1987 form separate meetings and intense discerning took place by the Sisters of Mercy Superior General and Council members with Monsignor Antonelli and the Rota Parish Council Francisco S. Calvo and Aniceto H. Mundo.
It was decided in 1987 that the Sisters of Mercy will minister in the Childhood Education and Continuing Christian Development and Adult Religion Education. Most Rev. Bishop Tomas A. Camacho, Bishop of Chalan Kanoa in Saipan, made a formal letter of request to have the Sisters of Mercy minister in Rota.
In 1988, the first Catholic Day Care Center materialized in Rota.
On August 14, 1989, Sr. Mary Benedict San Nicolas arrived in Rota to assume her ministry as administrator of the first Catholic Childhood Education Center under the Charter of Mount Carmel School. With her were Sr. Veronica Chargualaf and Sr. Mary Carmelita Peredo.
